Plitvice is just 10 minutes away, but Lika and Karlovac County offer far more than a single national park — from underground caves to watermills on two rivers.
Croatia's oldest and largest national park, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sixteen terraced lakes linked by waterfalls are explored on wooden footpaths through dense forest — the park is open year-round, and every season offers a different view.
The river that flows right past the estate. It's a karst sinking river rising below Mala Kapela, rated the highest purity class by Croatian standards, and home to brown trout — fishing permits are issued by the Saborsko angling association. After a roughly 12-kilometre underground course, it resurfaces as the Slunjčica and joins the Korana at Rastoke.
The Upper Barać Cave is the only one of the two Barać caves open to visitors. Guided tours last 45–60 minutes at a constant temperature of around 9°C, and include archaeological and paleontological finds — among them the remains of a cave bear and a cave lion. Nearby are three hiking trails of varying length, a playground and a gift shop.
A visitor centre dedicated to the underground heritage of the Plitvice region, presenting fossil finds from the Upper Barać Cave through four themes — speleology, geology, archaeology and paleontology. The entrance, shaped like a large glass rock face, mimics the mouth of a cave, and the layout of the rooms follows the logic of underground chambers.
A settlement shaped by the Slunjčica and Korana rivers, also known as "little Plitvice" for its similar geology. Its architectural heritage dates back to the 17th century, and alongside touring the old watermills you can try cycling, horseback riding, rafting, kayaking and fishing.
A Velebit canyon with rich karst terrain — sinkholes, pits and caves — plus around 150 km of trails leading to the Manita Peć cave and Velebit peaks such as Vaganski vrh (1,758 m). Paklenica is also one of Europe's leading rock climbing destinations, with nearly 600 climbing routes.
A family-run open-air zoo on 15 hectares near Plitvice, where alongside deer you can also see black Slavonian pigs and horses. Visitors are allowed to feed and pet the animals, making it especially appealing for families with children.
A 12th-century medieval fortress, one of the historical landmarks of the Plitvice region. Cycling, hiking and horseback riding trails lead to it, and the ruins offer views over the Korana river and the surrounding valleys.
